Formaldehyde in PBS is a common fixative reagent for histology in light microscopy and electron microscopy applications. It can also be a powerful disinfectant that kills both bacteria, fungi, and their spores.
Formaldehyde is provided at 4% is the ideal concentration for fixing tissue samples at about 1 mm per hour. PBS is a stable, gentle buffer for a wide range of biological samples.
