A lectin that induces the replication of polynucleic acids and the proliferation of lymphocyte.
The ability of lectins to detect subtle variations in carbohydrate structures on the surface of cells and tissues allows them to interact with a variety of cell types, including lymphocytes. This thereby allows agglutinations, producing cell activation and proliferation.
Plant agglutinins can party agglutinate erythrocytes according to the species and blood groups (therefore named phytohemagglutinins or lectins). GlycoMatrix™ provides lectin mitogens in purified and sterilized forms, ready to use in cell culture studies.
